RF/FI/RF FREQUENCY CONVERTER COFDM

Keywords: frequency converter - RF - DVB-T - COFDM -

General Description
This patented technology focuses on a frequency band translation for a broadcasting channel in the DVB-T standard.
From a digital channel emitted by a main site, the device receives the channel and makes successively the conversions RF / FI and FI / RF on another channel of the frequency plan.
This device, dealing with a digital channel containing a COFDM (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex)
Modulation, must have particular characteristics in terms of filtering, of stability and in terms of phase jitter.
Also the realization mode chosen matches this concern.

The device shows the following original points

- In band input-output, implementation of RF followers filters using the strip line technology. The latter procuring a good industrial reproducibility in series production and the UHF divided into two sub-bands assures a good filtering linearity.
- Implementation of 4 local oscillators in order to cover the UHF band, cut into 4 sub-bands allowing to guaranty a minimal phase jitter on the COFDM output.
- Unique intermediate frequency SAW (surface acoustic wave) filter implementation, specifically developed for the DVB-T profile, guarantying typical shoulder on modulated signal.

Applications

- The first envisaged application is directly linked to the use of this type of frequency translation in the DVB-T network complementary deployment. This band is adapted to the "ball-empfang" re-broadcasting sites. It can be used in mono or multi-channel re-broadcasting.
- The second one is the eventual retransmission of DVB-T programs on the cable network.
- Finally it is possible to ameliorate the DVB-T portability (Gap Filler) through coverage extensions.
