SET
OF EQUIPMENT FOR SEVERAL DATA STREAMS ON A UNIQUE TRANSMISSION MEDIUM
Keywords: MPEG-2 - transport stream - DVB - multiplexor
- hierarchical mode
General Description
This patented technology deals with a transmission process of several
digital data streams on a single transmission medium.
The technology can be used to transmit several streams, e.g. MPEG-2
streams, on a transmission medium which can be a microwave link or a
satellite transponder.
One purpose could be the transport of 2 digital MPEG-2 streams on the
same transmission medium at 2, 8, 34, 45, or 155 Mbit/s.
The two streams are then distributed in hierarchical mode; the first
stream with a very strong protection intended to a mobile reception
for example, the second with a normal protection for a fixed reception.
The first stream distributed with a strong protection is composed of
a single program. The second one can be composed by several programs.
The main innovative aspect are following
- Current devices don't allow to de-multiplex the stream differently
than by implementing in reception as many multiplexors as streams to
emit.
The cost and the complexity of those equipment justify on their own
the implementation of this invention.
- The system allows in a simple way to transport 2 or more totally independent
MPEG-2 streams on the same transmission medium. It also assures it's
own protection against errors.
Two type of applications can be considered
- The feeding of a broadcasting station by several multiplexors by using
a single medium of transmission.
- The transport of two streams for a distribution in hierarchical mode.
It's an open system for other kinds of streams.
